Stripe Terms of Service and Privacy Policy Update (2026)

Stripe, the payment processor behind AdvicePay, has updated its legal terms and Privacy Policy. No action is needed. Nothing changes in how you bill clients, how they pay, or how you receive payouts.

Because AdvicePay manages your Stripe account for you, Stripe requires us to notify you of these changes. We emailed all Account Owners on October 29, 2026.

What's changing

  • AI agents: If an AI tool takes actions on a Stripe account, the account owner is responsible for those actions.
  • New service terms: Stripe added dedicated terms for newer products, including stablecoin, agentic commerce, and global payouts, and folded its Stripe Atlas terms into the main agreement. AdvicePay doesn't offer these products, and the payment methods available to you and your clients aren't changing.
  • Updated documents: Stripe updated its Privacy Policy, Data Processing Agreement, and Link Payment Method Terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything? No. The updated terms apply automatically when you keep using AdvicePay's payment services after the effective dates.

I don't have a Stripe account. Why did I get this? AdvicePay sets up a Stripe account for your firm behind the scenes to process client payments and send your payouts. You don't log in to it directly, so the notice comes from us. Stripe legal notices are sent even if you've unsubscribed from marketing emails.

Will my fees, payouts, or payment methods change? No. This is a legal terms update. AdvicePay fees, payout timing, and accepted payment methods stay the same.

Does this affect my clients? Your clients don't need to do anything. Their saved payment methods, subscriptions, and invoices aren't affected, and they won't receive a notice from us.

Did AdvicePay change its own Privacy Policy or Terms of Service? No. This update is to Stripe's documents only. AdvicePay's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are unchanged.

What does the AI agent change mean for me? It makes clear that a Stripe account owner is responsible for anything an AI tool does on that account. If you don't use AI tools with your payments, nothing changes for you.

Can I decline the new terms and keep using AdvicePay? No. Stripe's terms can't be declined separately from AdvicePay's payment services. If you don't wish to accept them, you'll need to close your account before January 6, 2027. Closing cancels all client subscriptions and open invoices and deletes your payment history, so export your records first. See Cancel Your Account. Enterprise users should contact their firm's Account Owner or our Support team.

My compliance team wants copies of the documents. Where are they? All of Stripe's documents are linked below. Prior versions of the Stripe Services Agreement are also available for comparison.
